When I was a young girl, I desperately wanted a pair of clogs. I remember going to our local shoe store, The Footbridge, to try on a pair. Alas, my feet were too small and so it was no clogs for me. I’ve recently become obsessed with them again, thanks to Free People and their fantastic assortment. The leather is supple, the wood is gorgeous, and they are the perfect shoe for transitioning from summer to fall (not that I’m in any hurry for the leaves to start changing). Here are my favorites-how can you not love them?!?!

Oh, 4th of July. It’s the holiday that signals that summer is half over. It’s hot weather, sunshine, lakes, friends, family, and tons of fun. When we were little, we’d spend the day at the lake or pool, and in the evening we’d watch the fireworks at my grandparents and pretend we were getting shot each time there was a boom. As a teenager, we’d again spend the time in the water, but the evenings were spent hanging out at the fireworks acting goofy, trying to sit by the boys we liked, and cruising around town. And now, as an adult, it’s really about family, food, but still the sunshine. I know I’ll be parked in a lake, soaking up the 100+ degrees, and enjoying the day off from work.
But I would be remiss not to mention why we celebrate the day. As Americans, we are very lucky to live in a country where over 200 years ago our forefathers recognized the importance of being free to live the life you choose. Yes, there have been struggles along the way and we still continue to evolve as a nation, but there’s no where else I’d rather live (well, maybe the south of France). And I’d like to thank all the men and women throughout the centuries that have sacrificed their lives so that we may remain free.
I hope you all have a fabulous holiday and that you are able to spend it with the ones you love. Be safe and don’t forget the sunscreen!
It’s a scorcher out there today! I have “Happy Hour” plans with some life-long friends tonight and it’s hard to plan an outfit in this humidity. Shorts are a must, but I always get cold in the air conditioning. I pulled out my “look book” for some inspiration.
I adore this look. Oversized denim shorts are great because they allow air to circulate. A light-weight three quarter sleeve top is a wonderful option because it will keep my arms warm. I like an over-sized bag because I can throw a cardigan in there in case of a chill. Add the right jewelry and a gladiator sandal and you have the perfect look for an summer evening.
A sheer coral blouse is gorgeous against a tan, and can keep you cool too. Super short cut-offs paired with a belt are the perfect compliment to a flowy top. Simple but edgy jewelry pulls it all together. No shoes are shown, but I think a wedge would be the ultimate choice for this ensemble.
Dressing can be tricky in the summer because weather can change in a flash and you never know who’s going to have air conditioning. That’s why I always make sure I have a layering piece with my when sporting short sleeves. Denim shorts can easily be dressed up with the right accessories and shoes, as can most tops. The most important thing is to have fun and stay cool!
We all know winter can dry out and damage our hair, but what about summer? I’ve come to realize that the heat and elements of the summer can be just as, if not more so, damaging to my locks. Think about it. You have pool, lake, and ocean water, wind, humidity-and that’s just to name a few. After spending this past weekend outside in blazing sun and strong winds, my hair was looking a little parched. Time to pull out the big guns.
Sally Hershberger’s Hyper Hydration Super Keratin Spray is my hair’s best friend. This is the ultimate stress rehab for your follicles. It’s a super lightweight leave-in moisturizing spray that can be used on damp or dry hair. The super keratin and silk extract repair damage, seal split ends, protect from heat and daily stresses. It also tames frizz (essential for humid weather), static, and flyaways.
When sprayed through damp hair, you’re hair gets the deep moisture it craves. You can also use it on dry hair for instant manageability and softness, or to reactivate your style. I really focus on my ends and hair around my face because that seems to get the brunt of the damage. My locks are noticeably softer and virtually frizz-free. It is a major part of my routine on hair-washing days.

Spending the day outside has got me thinking about my favorite summertime items. I was inspired to do a board that showcases my favorite things right now. I love doing inspiration boards because I am very visual and they help get my mojo flowing.
*Charlotte Ronson “A Perfect Touch” rollerball fragrance $20
This new fragrance was inspired by endless beach days. With notes of fresh citrus, blossoming florals, vanilla, and creamy musk, this harkens back to the summers of my youth. Charlotte created this scent due to the all the feedback she had regarding her “A Perfect Mess” beach hair. Everyone loved the smell and now it’s captured in an easy-to-use rollerball.

*Watermelon Lemonade. I first had this beverage when the hubby and I were in Las Vegas. We had spent the day at the pool and decided to try this little Mexican restaurant in Mandalay Bay. It is really the most refreshing summertime drink I’ve ever had. Yummy!!
*Sun-kissed hair. I love the color of her hair (and she is adorable). It truly captures the essence of days spent in the sun, sand, and surf. Gorgeous!
*Who wouldn’t love to spend the day laying in a hammock with their girlies? Sand between your toes, sun on your skin, listening to the surf. It would be absolute heaven.
*1960’s swimwear. And people think bikinis are scandalous now? This was quite risqué back in the day. It makes me think of a much simpler time. And vintage photos are always inspiring.
*Flip flop flower baskets. What a super cute and fun idea. I live in flips all summer long and this would be perfect in our backyard oasis.
*Chanel Orange Fizz nail varnish $27
Such a scrumptious color. It would be a great accent color to your tan fingers and toes.
Available at Nordstrom
*Top knots-the perfect summer accessory. I find myself sporting them more and more as the days get warmer. It’s much easier to relax on my lounge chair with a top knot. A ponytail just gets in the way!
*Free People “Ruffle Me Up” mesh tunic $88
I am dying over this retro-style tunic. The ruffled tiers are fabulous. This would be ideal as a beach cover-up or with a colorful slip under it. It’s one of my favorite pieces for summer.
