Summer Inspiration Board

Spending the day outside has got me thinking about my favorite summertime items. I was inspired to do a board that showcases my favorite things right now. I love doing inspiration boards because I am very visual and they help get my mojo flowing.

TOP
*Charlotte Ronson “A Perfect Touch” rollerball fragrance $20
This new fragrance was inspired by endless beach days. With notes of fresh citrus, blossoming florals, vanilla, and creamy musk, this harkens back to the summers of my youth. Charlotte created this scent due to the all the feedback she had regarding her “A Perfect Mess” beach hair. Everyone loved the smell and now it’s captured in an easy-to-use rollerball.
Available at Sephora

*Watermelon Lemonade. I first had this beverage when the hubby and I were in Las Vegas. We had spent the day at the pool and decided to try this little Mexican restaurant in Mandalay Bay. It is really the most refreshing summertime drink I’ve ever had. Yummy!!

*Sun-kissed hair. I love the color of her hair (and she is adorable). It truly captures the essence of days spent in the sun, sand, and surf. Gorgeous!

MIDDLE
*Who wouldn’t love to spend the day laying in a hammock with their girlies? Sand between your toes, sun on your skin, listening to the surf. It would be absolute heaven.

*1960’s swimwear. And people think bikinis are scandalous now? This was quite risqué back in the day. It makes me think of a much simpler time. And vintage photos are always inspiring.

*Flip flop flower baskets. What a super cute and fun idea. I live in flips all summer long and this would be perfect in our backyard oasis.

BOTTOM:
*Chanel Orange Fizz nail varnish $27
Such a scrumptious color. It would be a great accent color to your tan fingers and toes.
Available at Nordstrom

*Top knots-the perfect summer accessory. I find myself sporting them more and more as the days get warmer. It’s much easier to relax on my lounge chair with a top knot. A ponytail just gets in the way!

*Free People “Ruffle Me Up” mesh tunic $88
I am dying over this retro-style tunic. The ruffled tiers are fabulous. This would be ideal as a beach cover-up or with a colorful slip under it. It’s one of my favorite pieces for summer.

Available at Free People

So, what inspires you this summer? I’d love to hear about any great products, recipes, or cute decorative pieces you may love.

Swim Into Summer At J. Crew

J. Crew has always been one my go-to shops for swimwear. For decades, they have offered versatile pieces in fabulous colors, prints, and fabrics. They may be on the more expensive side, but for someone who spends a lot of time in bikinis, I’ve learned you get what you pay for. They last for years, don’t stretch out, and the colors don’t fade. This season seems to be one of their best. I really love all the retro suits, but am not sure I can take the plunge. I’ve always been more of a string bikini kind of gal. Here’s just a sampling of what they are offering this season.

20120424-123312.jpg
Deck-stripe underwire top $58 and bikini bottom $46

20120424-123406.jpg
Deck-stripe board short $68
While the bikini bottom is a little high for me, I love the top and the board short. Perfect for those days spent kayaking.

20120424-123523.jpg
Polka-dot underwire top $54 and retro brief $50
Here’s an example of their retro collection. I think it’s super cool looking, but I’m not brave enough to rock it.

20120424-123658.jpg
Oxford-stripe string top $46 and string hipster $48
Ah, the good old string. I really love the colors of this suit.

20120424-123822.jpg
Ruched femme tank $82
I haven’t worn a one-piece since high school, but I do like this one. The ruche helps hide the problematic tummy area.

20120424-123949.jpg
Anchors Aweigh skirted tank $125
Another one of the retro pieces. It would be so cute on the right person and in the right situation.

20120424-124109.jpg
Ruched halter top $44 (not sure about the bottoms)
J. Crew has a fabulous solids mix and match collection. That way you can get the right top and bottom for your body.

20120424-124348.jpg
Glamour-girl bikini $42
This bottom has just the right amount of ruche to hide some of that extra hip I have.

20120424-124546.jpg
Low rider bottom $40
For days on my deck, lower is better (honestly these are still too high).

20120424-124658.jpg
Jersey Lomellina halter top $58 and side swept ruffled hipster $58
Just a little bit of ruffle makes this bikini a real standout.

And let’s not forget cover-ups. J. Crew has many cool options that make you a standout coming and going from the beach.

20120424-124944.jpg
Whisper gauze baja tunic $59.59
I would wear this anywhere!

20120424-125056.jpg
Whisper gauze beachcomber tunic $59.50 and faded indigo denim shorts $79.50
This is the type of outfit I live in all summer long!

20120424-125229.jpg
Knit tunic dress $69.50
Super easy to throw on and can take you right to a meal at the marina.

All pieces available at J. Crew

Just remember when trying on suits that you will get frustrated and you do have to try on many different styles, but I guarantee there is a perfect one for you. The stylists at J. Crew are more than happy to help you find the perfect match for your body. Good luck!

Lovely Finds At Anthropologie

I received the new Anthropologie catalog the other day and all I can say is “Wow”. They have come so far over the last decade. The styles, brands, trends, and overall presentation is fantastic. Yes, the price range is much higher, but the quality and uniqueness makes it all worth it. It was hard for me to narrow down my favorites, but I gave it a shot.

20120401-125809.jpg
INTIMATELY YOURS
So many pretty items to wear to bed. I love slips. They are so comfy and super sexy. The rompers remind of the undergarments women of “ill repute” wore back in the 1880’s. A couple of years ago my husband and I were lounging in a bar In Deadwood, South Dakota. The waitresses were all wearing something similar to these rompers. I wanted one so badly, but our server told us they were made specifically for them. Alas, it was not meant to be. These would be a great alternative.

Top: Scoopback Midi Slip $128 and Cloud-Ruffle Romper $148
Middle: Elbe Chemise $78
Bottom: Blushing Chemise $69.95 and Gillyflower Romper $128

20120401-131722.jpg
BOTTOMS UP
I live in denim. Skinnies, jeggings, flares, wide-leg…I love them all! Anthropologie has a huge selection of silhouettes and brands. I am loving the idea of a wide-leg crop. They would be super fun this summer. Overalls really come and go as far as a trend, but these vintage ones from Levis are right up my alley. I would rock them for the rest of my life!

Top: Citizens of Humanity Wide-Leg Crops $286, Levis Vintage Collection Deconstructed Overalls $350, and Pilcro Sailor Slims $118
Bottom: Holding Horses Wide-Leg Trouser $128, AG Ex-Boyfriend Crop $198, and AG Tomboy $245

20120401-132653.jpg
DRESS ME UP
Spring and summer are made for dresses. While I usually prefer the “little black dress”, there are many vibrant shades this season that I am excited to try. What better way than in my choice of dress? Whether it’s a shift, a mini, or pattern, I vow to add more dresses into my wardrobe.

Top: Dynamic Jersey Shift $118, Looking Glass Shift $138, and Agneta Dress $248
Bottom: Sun-Soaked Shift $138, Catalyst Dress $248, and Brimming Borders Mini-Dress $288

20120401-133519.jpg
BLUSHING PEASANTS
Okay, you all know I worship peasant anything and these tops are fabulous. The neutral palette, made up of blushes, beiges, whites, and yellows, are soft and romantic. These lovelies would be my choice for an every day top, but could easily be “styled” up for night.

Top: Josephina Top $39.95 and City Cousin Blouse $68
Middle: Surf and Turf Cover-Up $138
Bottom: Pyracantha Blouse $88 and Early Daffodils Top $88

20120401-134327.jpg
BRIGHTLY TOPPED
Anthro offers so many amazing tops in so many bright colors, you can’t help but wish for warm weather and sunshine. Again, most of these are in the “peasant” family, but this girl loves what she loves. I threw in a marvelous jacket as well. A nice, bold swing coat will absolutely be your statement piece and this one is “the tops”.

Top: Draped Snail Tank $69.95 and Vallota Peasant Blouse $79.95
Middle: Constructed Swing Jacket $198
Bottom: Saxifrage Thicket Top $98 and Framed Sleeve Top $78

All items available at Anthropologie

My selections are really just the tip of the iceberg at Anthropologie this season. Luckily for me (or maybe not so lucky), there are three Anthros within 10 miles of my house. I have a feeling they’re going to be seeing a lot of me over the next few months!

Babydoll Dreams

If I was a fashion designer, my signature piece would be the babydoll dress. I have always been drawn to this silhouette. I think it started because while appearing to be thin, my weight is all carried around the middle, and the babydoll allowed me to hide the tummy while turning the focus to my legs. But what it really comes down to is that the babydoll is just so darn cute. And, it can be really sexy if styled correctly. I’ve worn this silhouette for play, work, and even to events such as weddings. And while the “doll” never goes out of style, it does have certain moments and this spring is one of them. There are a ton of adorable variations out there and today I’m going to share some of my favorites with you.

20120315-105435.jpg
Long Sleeve Navy Babydoll Dress by Argenti $52
This truly captures the hippy element for me and I’ve actually owned similar dresses. The navy is a nice alternative to black, especially going into spring.
available at eDressMe

20120315-105732.jpg
Vero Moda Babydoll $63 (was originally $116)
Love the color, love the ruffled bust line. This little dress is the one you need for all your summer events.
available at Asos

20120315-110001.jpg
Darling Chiffon Lace Babydoll $64 (was $116)
The name says it all-this is darling! I love how it’s styled with the thigh high socks. It gives a very playful vibe. This dress would also look amazing with a great pair of heels.
available at Asos

20120315-110214.jpg
Solid Babydoll Ruffle Woven Dress $118
Sexy, sexy, sexy. I’m a sucker for off-the-shoulder and the color is summer personified. A wonderful dress for date night or a daytime excursion.
available at Free People

20120315-110556.jpg
Babydoll Bra Top Dress $40
A classic dress with a built-in bra. This will take you everywhere and work for everything.
available at Victoria’s Secret

20120315-110754.jpg
Pearl Embellished Swing Dress with Crochet Detailing $50 (was $134)
Pretty white dress with wonderful detailing, this dress will take you to the beach with flip flops or to music in the park with sandals.
available at Asos

20120315-111103.jpg
Gloria Dress $29 (was $98)
This dress will take you to every summer wedding and then some. I love that the straps are the detail and you can’t go wrong with the price.
available at Quicksilver

20120315-111348.jpg
Bar III Dress $64
Every girl needs a pretty floral dress in her wardrobe and this one has it all. The soft color palette and simple floral pattern makes this the quintessential summer dress.
available at Macy’s

In my opinion, if you’re looking for a versatile summer dress, look no further than the babydoll. It has everything you could want in a dress, it will hide the pooch, and you’ll look amazing.
