Outrageous Lashes

Another day, another new mascara. They pop up constantly and, of course, I have to try them all. My latest experiment was with the new Sephora Collection Outrageous Mascara. This is a volumizing mascara that is supposed to give you pumped-up, glamorous lashes. What sets it apart from other mascaras is the triple loaded brush. It coats lashes in one stroke for a luscious look (it really does only take one coat). I would recommend wiping the brush a bit before application. As with most fat brushes, they are a little big for my eyes and can get a bit goopy, so less is more. What I really love about it is the color. It is a very rich black and the formula contains Hyaluronic Acid, which is known for it’s moisturizing properties. The brush is good and can be used in a couple of different ways. Use the reservoirs to intensify lashes root to tip. You can use the “spiked” areas to separate and define lashes. Or you can achieve a curved effect by pressing brush lightly to the upper tips of lashes. Did it give me “voluminous” lashes? Not to the extent I would have liked, but the color was dramatic and my lashes definitely stood out. They just didn’t look as thick as I’d hoped. I didn’t find any smudging, but there was a little flaking. Overall, it’s a good mascara, but it just wasn’t as “outrageous” as I wanted.

Split End Repair

It seems this time of year everything is dry-my skin, my hair…UGH! While getting my hair colored this morning, the colorist asked me if I was getting a cut as well. When I told her I just had one not even a month ago, she was shocked (Granted, I don’t let them take off very much length, but still…). I am plagued by split ends! Looks like it’s time to pull out the big guns.

There are three products I have used to combat those blasted ends. Luckily, I still have an ample supply (why did I even stop using them?). The first is Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum. This light-weight but heavy duty oil can be used on wet or dry hair. It gives instant shine and long- lasting rejuvenation to hair. It penetrates the hair shaft to seal split ends and delivers intense moisture. Hair is left feeling silky and is very shiny. Plus, it smells wonderful.

Nexxus Pro-Mend is a great collection of split end repair products. There is a shampoo and conditioner, plus two treatment products. The first is their Leave-In Treatment Creme. Worked through wet hair, it binds the ends together while you style, and leaves hair looking damage free. I see a noticeable difference when I use this. They also have an overnight treatment that intensely repairs your ends while you sleep. You wake up with pretty hair and leaves no residue on your pillow.

There is another product I really want to try. It keeps popping up in my magazines and is definitely on my list of things to experience. Alterna’s Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Pure Treatment Oil is a deeply nourishing treatment that repairs split ends, plus it helps protect your color. If anyone has used it, let me know what you think!

There is an ultimate treatment for split ends, and any stylist will tell you I’m right-get your hair trimmed. I am guilty of not following this rule, mainly because I don’t want my hair any shorter. But I guess healthy looking hair is more important than that extra 1/2-1 inch of hair!

Lips Like Butter

We all know by now that I am addicted to lip balm. Love it, will try anything, blah blah, blah…One of my favorite products is Korres Lip Butter. Made with Shea butter, it is deeply moisturizing and feels amazing on my lips. It is available in seven colors, but don’t be fooled by the lip balm aspect. The colors are borderline intense and produce a shiny, tinted finish. My one complaint is that it comes in a tub so I have to apply with my fingers, which I really don’t like (you need to have a tissue handy because there will be color on your fingers). It is a great replacement for lipstick-the color is just as rich, but it will keep your lips hydrated, and we could all use a little of that this time of year.

I found a new, absolutely fabulous product last week-Revlon’s Colorburst Lip Butter. It is every bit as good as the Korres, but comes in a tube so no messy fingers! It is also formulated with Shea butter, and it’s gel formula gives super hydration to dry lips. It is available in twenty colors and they are also pretty intense. My favorites are Candy Apple and Peach Parfait.

Both would make excellent stocking stuffers!!
