Crack-The Ultimate Hair Care Prescription

I was recently in a check-out line and saw a bottle of “Crack”. I had to look. The clever description made it impossible to resist. So , what is “Crack”? Well, it’s not what you’re thinking (I would never condone drugs). This is a hair care miracle. Named Crack for it’s addictive, habit-forming properties, this cream does everything you need it to do. Formulated with acai extract and silk proteins, this product moisturizes and protects hair from dryness and chemicals, including chlorine. It offers thermal and UV protection, and moisturizes from the hair cuticle to the ends. And this wonder blocks the effects of humidity and eliminates up to 95% of frizz and curl.

As you can see (and no, this isn’t me), it really does work. From the first application, my hair was shiny, more manageable, and very silky. And I can also vouch for the humidity claims. This summer has been one humid mother, and this product keeps my hair smooth all day long. Applied to towel-dried hair, Crack makes blow-drying a snap. The brush glides through hair and makes the whole process much easier. I’m left with hair that has tons of volume and looks smooth as glass. I’m already addicted. But a warning, a little bit goes a long way.

Purify Your Skin With Oil

I’ve always been a big fan of Philosophy, so when I needed a new facial cleanser I looked to them for guidance. I was really needing something that remove eye make-up. They recommended their Purity Made Simple Mineral Oil-Free facial cleanser. I was a little skeptical. I have oily skin and couldn’t imagine washing my skin with, well, oil. But to my surprise, it works very well.
This facial cleansing oil is made without mineral oil and instead uses a blend of natural oils that melt away all traces of make up, dirt, oil, and impurities. It comfortably cleanses my skin while maintaining my natural moisture levels. It rinses off completely, leaving my skin feeling fresh, hydrated and not greasy. And the eye make up is bye-bye.
The facial oil is super easy to use. Squirt a tiny amount into hand and massage on DRY skin for a couple of minutes. Add a few drops of water, massage for a brief interval and then rinse with water. It doesn’t seem like it could possibly get rid of all the day’s gunk, but my cotton ball is clean after applying toner. And it has a very pleasant lemon scent, which just adds to is fabulousness.

This just may be my new favorite product. It is great for all skin types, easy to use, and pretty affordable.

Masque It

In my never ever ending quest for soft and manageable hair, I’ve found it imperative to deep condition. I have also found that you really don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to do it. L’oreal has some amazing hair care products and their masques rival the big names. Their “Ever” line is fantastic and is made up of many wonderful products, but perhaps the best are the masques. There’s one suitable for every hair issue we women have. And best of all-they’re all under $10.

20120331-182912.jpg
Evercreme Deep Nourishing Masque $8.99
This is their latest (and in my opinion, greatest) masque. It nourishes and restores moisture, transforming your dry, brittle hair into a soft and luscious mane. It is sulfate-free and contains Omega 3 which is just what the doctor ordered. It also contains no heavy waxes.

20120331-183209.jpg
Eversleek Smoothing Deep Conditioner $8.99
This is perfect for those gals that battle frizz. It’s an intensive and rich treatment that controls frizz and improves manageability. The natural oils penetrate hair fibers making hair smooth, shiny, and virtually frizz-free. Argan, sunflower, and olive oils weightlessly smooth hair, controlling the fuzz for up to 48 hours. Perfect for those affected by summer humidity.

Everstrong Deep Replenish Masque $8.99
Sulfate-free and using L’oreal’s patented Bio-ceramide complex, this masque strengthens hair after only one use. It’s intensive, rich, and deeply nourishes and strengthens hair leaving it strong and super silky.

All available at Ulta and major drugstores.

So go ahead, you’re worth it!

Perfect Sun Protection

You just couldn’t ask for better weather here in Minnesota. Yesterday, the hubby and I went kayaking down the Minnesota river. Kayaking! On St. Patrick’s Day! In Minnesota! Unheard of and absolutely amazing. But as many people have learned the hard way, just because it’s March doesn’t mean those sun rays won’t burn you. As one who suffers from sun damage (I was a child in the 70’s and 80’s. Baby oil was the name of the game), I knew I would need sunscreen. Good thing too. I have a very nice tan going, but that would have been red if not for sunscreen. While I don’t mind putting it on my body, I always hated applying it to my face. It always seemed greasy and not very attractive. But a couple of years ago I discovered the ultimate sunscreen for faces from Peter Thomas Roth. A renowned skin guru, he has created the perfect protection that gives you a youthful glow and protects you from damaging rays. There are many formulations, but these are my favorites. I never leave home without one in my bag.

20120318-100014.jpg
Instant Mineral Powder SPF 45 $30
This is a transparent mineral powder that comes with a convenient brush applicator. It blocks UVA, UVB, and infrared rays, and prevents sunburn, skin damage, freckling, and discoloration. This matte powder is so easy to apply-just twist and brush over your face. It’s talc-free and mess free. There is no residue either.

20120318-100528.jpg
Bronze Instant Mineral Powder SPF 30 $35
This is my favorite. I use this as my powder all summer long. It has a dual chamber that allows you to blend your perfect color. It mixes transparent powder with a mineral bronzer and you can choose light, medium, or dark. It’s a finely milled powder that gives you a soft, residue-free layer of sunblock. You get a build-able, sun-kissed glow and ultimate protection.

Oily Problem Skin Instant Mineral Powder SPF 30 $30
This has all the sun protection you could need plus it’s blemish-fighting and oil-free. This matte powder absorbs oil, helping to reduce shine and prevent future breakouts. And don’t we all need some help with shine in the summer?

All products by Peter Thomas Roth and are available at Sephora

These powders really last too. I have had the matte powder for years. The bronzer I used all the light color in one summer, but still-it got me through several months. Of course, now I have a lot of the medium and dark left. Oh well. There really is no better sunscreen for your face. It’s convenient, easy to use, and gives you a wonderful, youthful glow!

Style Inspiration-Drew Barrymore

Ever since she helped ET phone home, I have loved Drew Barrymore. She was the cutest little girl (my youngest sister looked just like her) and has grown into a beautiful woman who is comfortable in her own skin. Oh, she had her ups and downs, but she came out stronger because of it. Not only is she an actress, she’s a producer (and owns her own production company), and a spokeswoman for Cover Girl. She is just a free spirit and always looks like she’s having a good time. And now she’s a happily engaged lady. She is my style inspiration for this Saturday.

20120203-124526.jpg
A smile that can light up any room.

20120203-124557.jpg
I loved this look. I actually took this photo to my stylist. Love!

20120203-124645.jpg
Uber cool. The colorful fedora really jazzes up the flannel. And I love a red lip.

20120203-124744.jpg
Drew really has the best example of ombre hair. She looks like such a free spirit in this photo.

20120203-124849.jpg
The leather jacket and studded belt give her a real rocker vibe.

20120203-124935.jpg
The ombre hair again. I took this photo to a stylist as well.

20120203-125017.jpg
I love jeans that open at the ankle. They look so cool with a platform. And again, a fedora adds so much to an outfit. Always accessorize.

20120203-125129.jpg
This outfit is very Drew. It pairs casual with dressy, and she looks so long and lean.

20120203-125323.jpg
Pulling her hair back makes her look very classy, and the leather blazer gives her the right amount of edge.

20120203-125504.jpg
This week on “Leno”. She looks so happy! I really adore this floral dress, especially with the black tights and blue shoes.

20120203-130011.jpg
Having a casual lunch in stripes. She has such natural beauty.

20120203-130138.jpg
Gorgeous on the red carpet. She looks very glamorous with her hair up.

20120203-130230.jpg
This dress really accentuates her shape, and the bold necklace is a definite statement piece.

20120203-130426.jpg
Here she proves that she comes from old Hollywood stock. Very elegant.

20120203-130522.jpg
The silhouette and color of this dress blow me away. It’s not often we see her with straight hair, but it is perfect for this ensemble.

Even though I often see her as little Gertie, she is a woman who dresses for herself and has fun doing it.
