Pure Envy…Lipstick that is…

I recently appeared on “Twin Cities Live” and “Kare 11 Saturday” to talk about Go Red for Women. I was honored to style three amazing heart survivors and to hear their stories. And I was relieved to learn I would have a makeup artist! I’m okay with the day-to-day makeup application, but this was TV….
I had no reason to worry. The makeup artists for Estée Lauder were fabulous and made each of us look natural, yet radiant.

One of the products they used on the four of us was their new Pure Envy lipstick in “Envious”. This red truly works with all skin tones. The color has real staying power and the formula does not dry out the lip. I have fallen in love-I use it every day. It’s a fantastic pop of color for everyone!

If you’re looking for a fun new lipstick for Spring, this is the one for you.

Nip+Fab Lands Stateside At Target

It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here! The U.K.’s best selling skincare phenomenon, Nip+Fab, is now stateside at select Target stores. Created by celebrity skin care specialist (and the brains behind the much more expensive line Rodial), this skincare collection targets every issue women face. This clinically tested line of products contains miracle workers that brighten, plump, and smooth skin, and covers problems from cellulite to dark spots to frown lines. I seriously ran to Target yesterday. I started with three products, which I will review once I’ve had some time to use them, but I know I will be going back for more.

Frown Fix $9.95
This product is a wrinkle and expression line filler. It comes with a neat brush so you just click and swipe it over all those lines you want filled.

Pigmentation Fix $15.95
This reduces age and sun spots, and corrects uneven skin tone. While I’ve been extremely happy with Estee Lauder’s Idealist, this has a much more beautiful price tag (Idealist is $85 a bottle).

No Needle Fix $19.99
This claims to be an injection of youth with no needle needed. It fills wrinkles within 30 minutes and after after 28 days deep wrinkles are diminished by almost 16%.

Today is my first day with these three products and I can tell you this much-they are all non-greasy and feel amazing on my skin. I put the Frown Fix on my crows feet and they are much softer looking and my concealer did not settle into them. I could actually feel the No Needle Fix working-my skin immediately felt tighter, but not in a bad way. I just know this is going to be my new favorite line!

Maria Hatzistefanis, creator of Nip+Fab
please visit Nip+Fab for more information.

Nip+Fab is available on-line and at select Target stores. Some in the Minneapolis area are Edina, Knollwood, St. Louis Park, Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Chaska, and Mankato. I suggest downloading the Target app. It gives you the product and whether it’s on-line or in-store. I could then choose the store, the product, and it would tell me exactly what aisle to go to (it was a little hard to find).

5 Minute Face

I love my morning routine. There’s something very comforting about having a regime. It gets my day off to the right start and sets the stage. But just because I enjoy applying lotions and potions, it doesn’t mean I want it to take forever. Let’s be real, most of us have a limited amount of time in the morning to get ready and we need things to be streamlined. Here’s a look at my five minute face (give or take). It may seem like a lot of products, but they are quick and easy to apply. You’ll have a natural, rosy glow in a matter of minutes.

The first thing I do is apply a beauty balm. This is a moisturizer, primer, concealer, and SPH all in one. It will save you lots of time (and money).

I then apply a concealer on the hard to cover spots. This takes two seconds, as the bb cream does a great job covering most flaws.
shown: Loreal Magic Lumi Liquid Concealer $13

The next step is to apply a blush stain (gel or cream). You could skip this step, but I find my cheeks stay rosy longer if I use a stain.
shown: Tarte Cheek Stain $30

I then sweep on a mineral powder. It gives me a flawless finish and helps to keep the oil at bay. I find mineral powders to be the best. They seem less cakey and are more natural.

Next comes a powder blush. I know, it seems like overkill to most of you. But I’ve found that using both a cream and powder blush gives me great color and is less likely to melt off during the day.
shown: Tarte Amazoninan Clay 12hr Blush $25

It’s on to the eyebrows. I like a gel instead of a pencil. The color sweeps on with a mascara wand and is super easy. It gives definition and holds brows into place.
shown: Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel $21

To set everything, I use a makeup setting spray. This keeps my face looking fresh and set all day.
shown: Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray $29

If it’s a day I’m going to be out and about, I’ll add mascara to the ritual. I always use a primer. It makes my lashes even longer and keeps the mascara from smudging.

Last step is the lip. For most days I apply a tinted lip balm. It gives my pout a natural pop of color while keeping them soft and moisturized.

So, there you have it, my five minute face. You can add or subtract to fit your needs, but this is what works best for me. What’s your five minute face routine?

Battle Of The BB Cream

When I first wrote about Dr. Jart BB Cream back in October, there were only a few brands available here in the States. Fast forward five months and it seems every beauty brand has one in their arsenal. And with good reason. BB Cream (or beauty/blemish balm) got it’s start in Asia and has quickly become a must-have for millions of women world wide. This miracle cream combines moisturizer, primer, concealer, and foundation into one product, streamlining your morning routine. Think of it as a super-charged tinted moisturizer. But with so many offerings, one can become overwhelmed when choosing a balm. I have spent the past couple of weeks testing out the “latest and greatest” and am going to share my findings with you. I hope it helps you find the right bb cream for you.

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfecter BB Cream $12.99
This balm is available in two shades and unfortunately neither worked for me. What I did like was the consistency. It spread very easily. It didn’t wear well on my oily skin and I was shiny in a matter of hours. I think this would be a perfect fit for someone with normal to dry skin. The best part is that it’s $20 less than all the other creams.
available at all major drugstores

Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm $32
This gave me the best glow. It’s available in four shades and the colors are very pretty. It has a anti-aging, multi-mineral complex that promotes cell health, strengthens skin elasticity, and enhances luminosity. The consistency was middle of the road-spread easily but more on the thick side. It offers good coverage but had worn off my cheeks by the end of the day. I did like the overall appearance.
Available at Ulta

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream $39
This had great coverage and definitely kept the shine at bay all day. The UVA/UVB protection helps inhibit oil to prevent your face from getting shiny. It wore very well. It comes in five shades so there is a choice for everyone. While the formula does create a smooth finish, it was very thick and hard to spread. The good news is that it doesn’t look thick on your face. This gets two-thumbs up for sure!
available at Sephora

Estee Lauder Daywear Anti-Oxidant Beauty Benefit Cream $38
This has the best coverage and overall look. It comes in two shades, which can be tricky, but the lighter one worked great. It offers powerful protection with their proven super anti-oxidant complex and SPF 35. The consistency was thick and spread okay (very similar to the Smashbox). It wore very well all day and helped control shine. Plus, it has an amazing scent.
available at all fine department stores

Overall, these creams were all great. I wish I could take the best of each and formulate a super bb cream. I would recommend getting samples and trying them first. BB Creams really are the best and there is absolutely one that will work for you. I hope I’ve provided you with a starting point. I’m almost out of my Dr. Jart (which is still wonderful) and am now very conflicted about which one to get next. Because of my oily skin, probably the Smashbox or Estee Lauder, but the colors were so luminous in the Too Faced. I really wish the Garnier worked for me. I could save some big $$!

Mad Men Cosmetics

In keeping with the Mad Men theme from yesterday, today I feature the new cosmetics collection from Estee Lauder. This limited edition Mad Men Collection arrives just in time for the AMC series 5th season premiere (March 25) and features two must-have items that are sure to please. What I love about them is that they harken back to a time when glamour was still evident in every day life. Women oozed style and class, and something as simple as putting on lipstick gave you an aura of elegance. These are two products you will be proud to pull out of your bag.

The lipstick in Cherry $25
This pretty cherry-red hue will look wonderful on all skin types. It comes in a 1960’s era gold pouch.

Creme Rouge in Evening Rose $40
A beautiful, dewy rose shade that is packaged in a gorgeous gold and turquoise compact.

The product and packaging have “handbag elegance”. In other words, something fabulous to pull out of your bag.

The collection debuts on March 18th and will be available at Estee Lauder and Bloomingdale’s.

Kajal Me

Do you remember in “Sex and the City 2” when the oh-so-stylish Carrie Bradshaw purchased a unique eyeliner in the Souk? And then she lined her eyes as black as night for her ill-fated meeting with Aidan? Well, that was Kajal eyeliner and it’s sweeping the States in a big way.

Carrie with her kajal eyes

Kajal has been used for centuries by women in India and other Eastern parts of the world. It is a richly intense black ingredient that delivers stunning definition and the cone shape enables the product to glide effortlessly. The result is very defined and contoured eyes.

Estee Lauder’s Intense Kajal Eye Crayon is a creamy crayon that creates intense, smoldering color in one single stroke. It blends very easily and can be used as a liner or smudged for more of a shadow. For added drama, try lining the lower inner rim of the eye.

Estee Lauder Intense Kajal Eye Crayon $22
available at fine department stores

Many of the drugstore brands are introducing Kajal liners to their repertoire. A great (and more affordable) option is by Loreal. It’s every bit as good as the Estee Lauder crayon.

Loreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner $8.95
available at major drugstores

There’s nothing I love more than a smokey eye. It’s very glamorous and can really make your eyes pop. Unfortunately, I’ve never mastered the look. I have trouble wearing eyeliner (my eyes are shaped weird and it ends up on my brow bone), but this does look amazing and would be very fun to play around with. A smokey eye can be very sexy, and the Kajal eye is one step above that. It’s SMOLDERING!

Spot Eraser

I have a lot of spots on my face. Acne scars, sun spots, freckles-you name it, I got it. My skin tone is very uneven (Come on-I grew up in the seventies and eighties. We used baby oil and aluminum covered albums to bake in the sun.) and I have tried everything to repair it. There are many products on the market now that claim to erase spots, but the only product I have found that works instantly is Estee Lauder’s Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator.
This is a miracle product for me. The formula is so light-weight and silky it almost turns to powder on my skin (and it’s oil-free). Instantly, my skin appears clearer, brighter, and more vibrant. It dramatically reduces redness, acne marks, dark spots, sun spots and discolorations. I used it for months but then switched to a cheaper product (no job-save money) but immediately noticed a change in my skin’s appearance. I had to switch back! When I’m using this product I can actually look at my skin and see radiance. I am a true believer in Idealist!

Estee Lauder Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator 1.0 $58, 1.7 $85
