Lip Lacquer Magic

With Style Meganzine turning one year, I thought it was time to get blogging again. It’s been an amazing year with lots of new beginnings and I truly appreciate all the support from all of you.

Today I want to talk about my new favorite product. Shiseido Lacquer Rouge is the perfect combination of stain and gloss. Inspired by Japanese lacquerware, one coat of this gloss provides intense color and deep luster. The formula improves dry, rough, or peeling lips, and leaves your pucker very moisturized. And you never get that icky bleed some rich colors can leave. I love both Disco (RS 404) which is a very vibrant pink and Drama (RD 501) which is the perfect red. Disco took some getting used to as I never wear such bright color, but it really wakes me up. Because it’s a stain, the color lasts all day, and I really only reapply once. Yep, it’s that moisturizing!
Here’s a little secret I shared with the girls at the Shiseido counter-this lacquer is also the most amazing cheek tint. I know, you’d think it would be too sticky, but it actually blends in perfectly. Word of warning, a little bit goes A LONG way. Just the tiniest bit on your fingertip is all you need for rosy cheeks. I’ve also found it’s a great way to look refreshed when you’re having a long day. Dot, dot, and you look instantly revived!

Shiseido Lacquer Rouge $25

Oh yeah-the tube is small enough to fit into any purse which is great. No more lugging gloss, stain, lipstick, blush, and brush-you have all of that in one tube!

Stress Rehab For Your Locks

We all know winter can dry out and damage our hair, but what about summer? I’ve come to realize that the heat and elements of the summer can be just as, if not more so, damaging to my locks. Think about it. You have pool, lake, and ocean water, wind, humidity-and that’s just to name a few. After spending this past weekend outside in blazing sun and strong winds, my hair was looking a little parched. Time to pull out the big guns.
Sally Hershberger’s Hyper Hydration Super Keratin Spray is my hair’s best friend. This is the ultimate stress rehab for your follicles. It’s a super lightweight leave-in moisturizing spray that can be used on damp or dry hair. The super keratin and silk extract repair damage, seal split ends, protect from heat and daily stresses. It also tames frizz (essential for humid weather), static, and flyaways.
When sprayed through damp hair, you’re hair gets the deep moisture it craves. You can also use it on dry hair for instant manageability and softness, or to reactivate your style. I really focus on my ends and hair around my face because that seems to get the brunt of the damage. My locks are noticeably softer and virtually frizz-free. It is a major part of my routine on hair-washing days.

Nail Treatments That Work (Really)

I’m not an authority on nails. Mine have never been great so I mainly neglect them. They are dry, brittle, weirdly shaped…and I’m a biter. I know, at my age it’s just really sad. I’ve decided recently to keep them painted as a way of deterring the biting. And so far, so good. My mom even asked me if I had gotten acrylics! There are tons of nail products out there that promise many different things, but I have found three that really have been life savers. I use a different one each week and have really seen an improvement in the condition of my nails. They are part of the Sephora by OPI collection and are exclusive to Sephora. And we all know OPI is one of the best nail product brands out there.

20120410-152413.jpg
Nail Treatment Hydrator $9.50
This is the perfect treatment for women that want healthy, moisturized nails. Used alone or as a base coat, this will eliminate those dry, brittle nails in no time.

20120410-152601.jpg
Nail Treatment Strengthener $9.50
This is the gem for those looking for stronger nails. It’s an amazing base coat that helps prevent chipping, but can also be used alone. You’ll have stronger nails after one use.

20120410-152800.jpg
Nail Treatment Brightener $9.50
This wonder brightens nails that have turned yellow due to dark polishes or other reasons. It makes nail super bright and pretty when worn alone, and somehow makes removing dark polishes a breeze.

All are available exclusively at Sephora

If you have any great nail tips, let me know. I’m kind of digging having longer, painted nails. They add a certain amount of “polish” to any look!

Masque It

In my never ever ending quest for soft and manageable hair, I’ve found it imperative to deep condition. I have also found that you really don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to do it. L’oreal has some amazing hair care products and their masques rival the big names. Their “Ever” line is fantastic and is made up of many wonderful products, but perhaps the best are the masques. There’s one suitable for every hair issue we women have. And best of all-they’re all under $10.

20120331-182912.jpg
Evercreme Deep Nourishing Masque $8.99
This is their latest (and in my opinion, greatest) masque. It nourishes and restores moisture, transforming your dry, brittle hair into a soft and luscious mane. It is sulfate-free and contains Omega 3 which is just what the doctor ordered. It also contains no heavy waxes.

20120331-183209.jpg
Eversleek Smoothing Deep Conditioner $8.99
This is perfect for those gals that battle frizz. It’s an intensive and rich treatment that controls frizz and improves manageability. The natural oils penetrate hair fibers making hair smooth, shiny, and virtually frizz-free. Argan, sunflower, and olive oils weightlessly smooth hair, controlling the fuzz for up to 48 hours. Perfect for those affected by summer humidity.

20120331-183530.jpg
Everstrong Deep Replenish Masque $8.99
Sulfate-free and using L’oreal’s patented Bio-ceramide complex, this masque strengthens hair after only one use. It’s intensive, rich, and deeply nourishes and strengthens hair leaving it strong and super silky.

All available at Ulta and major drugstores.

So go ahead, you’re worth it!

Dry Way to Keratin Infusion

One of the first posts I did was about Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo. In this post I wrote about how awesome their $3 version is compared to much more expensive brands. Well, Suave has done it again. They have launched a phenomenal Keratin Infusion line and I am in love with the dry shampoo.
So, what is keratin? Keratin is a very strong protein that our hair, nails, skin, and teeth are made out of. Damage to the external layer of keratin can cause hair to look dry, brittle, and unhealthy. And if you style with heat, you are going to damage that layer. Basically, the thicker the layer of keratin is, the healthier and shinier our hair is. Keratin Infusion does what it’s name states-it infuses your hair with keratin and helps to protect it from damaging styling tools and products.
What I love about this new dry shampoo is that it makes my hair super shiny. Most dry shampoos leave a whitish residue and a matte finish, but not this one. Formulated with Keralock Technology, this gives your hair a dose of keratin, absorbs oil, refreshes hair, and gives your blowout more longevity. You’re left with healthy looking hair full of volume and shine. And it smells amazing!

Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo $3.49
available at Target and all major drugstores

Be sure to check out Suave’s entire line of Keratin Infusion. There are styling products, shampoos and conditioners, and a smoothing kit (which is not for all hair types). For more information and to take the hair quiz, please visit Suave Keratin Infusion

Split Ends Repair Part 2

I realize I have posted about dry hair and split ends before, but if you’re like me, you want to know about any products that can repair these issues. And boy do I have a miracle worker for you. I’ll tell you up front-it’s not cheap. But believe me when I say it is worth every penny.
Kerastase’s Fiber Architecte is new and amazing. It is a must have for sealing and repairing brittle, very damaged lengths and split ends. It is a serum and gel in one product and the combination of ingredients revitalizes damaged hair from the inside out. It is heat activated so you apply it on dry hair. There are a few ways I use it. First, if I’m just blowdrying, I do it at the very end. Once my hair is dry, I apply it to the ends and then use a round brush and blowdryer to seal it. If I’m using a flat iron, I put it on the ends before going over it with the iron. Same for when I’m using a curling iron. A little bit goes a long way. I only use one pump and this coats all of my ends. If you have thicker hair you can use a little more. Your hair will get healthier fast and you’re left with silky, shiny, and smooth locks. I do recommend shopping around. I found a salon in Minneapolis that sells it for $10 less than the Kerastase website. But honestly, I would pay full price. It’s just that good.

Dry Hair Blues

I went to the wonderful Marc Daniel Salon in Maple Grove this week to have my grays touched up. As soon as my colorist (the amazingly talented Heather Frank) started running her hands through my hair I let the excuses as to why my hair is so dry start to fly. “I don’t understand it. I just had a trim.” “I’ve only been washing and blow drying twice a week.” “I haven’t been using the flat iron.” On and on…Heather told me to relax and then explained that every one is having the dry hair issue. Bottom line, here in Minnesota we are experiencing somewhat of a drought. Other than a few flurries, we have had no moisture in the air. No moisture equals dry hair and skin. Luckily, there are things we can do to combat this, both in the salon and at home.

In the salon, the first thing you want to do is talk to your stylist and BE HONEST. What do you use, how do you style, ect. They can’t help you fully if you aren’t honest about your routine. At Marc Daniel, they carry the Kerastase line and have several different treatment options. Heather gave me the Age Recharge Treatment with a Substantif booster. The Age Recharge Treatment is for dry and aging hair. It builds the structure of hair and stops breakage. The Substantif Booster gives your hair volume and density. My hair looks and feels amazing, and is super shiny. What a difference!

As far as hair products are concerned, I’ve always believed Kerastase is the best. It always tops every list of best hair care, and I can give it my 100% endorsement because I use it. It is expensive, but believe me, it is so worth it. Their Nutri-Thermique line is the best for dry hair. It intensely nourishes while creating durably soft and shiny hair under the effects of heat. Your hair is protected from the recurring drying-out process and the harmful effects of heat-styling. It doesn’t weigh down the hair and is never tested on animals. LOVE this line!

Kerastase Nutri-Thermique Shampoo, conditioner, and mask $36-$60

20120121-161540.jpg
For a more affordable version, try the Evercreme Intense Nourishing line from Loreal $5.99-$7.99
available at all drugstores

You also want to make sure you’re using styling products that are geared toward dry hair. Many styling products can dry out the hair, so always double check. Hair oils are always awesome, even if you have fine hair. Check the labels or talk to your stylist. Here are some of my favorites-

20120121-162420.jpg
Moroccanoil Treatment Light $13-$35
The light version is for fine hair.

20120121-162701.jpg
Loreal Mythic Oil $22
available at Amazon

There are many things you can do at home to aid your dry hair blues.
1. Drink more water (at least 64 ounces per day)
2. Take a multivitamin (prenatal vitamins are great for hair)
3. Get more sleep
4. Don’t wash hair every day
5. Use brushes made from boar bristles
6. Never brush wet hair-use a wide tooth comb

Hopefully this has helped, and if you have any good remedies, let me know.
