Shapely Assets

Last week someone asked me what they should wear under their cute summer dresses. Now, for me, it really depends on the dress. A baby doll usually requires the usual undergarments, but anything that fits tighter than that requires extra reinforcements. Body shapers are a life-saver for me. They conceal any flaws I want to hide and give me a sleek appearance. Here are some great options for giving you just a little extra shape under those fun frocks this summer.

Yummie Tummie “Gigi” Thong $28
This pretty thong is made of cool, breathable stretch-cotton that smoothes and firms the tummy without any tell-tale lines.

Commando “Control” Shaping Thong $36
This thong has a line-free fit that instantly smoothes the tummy and waist.

Spanx “Thinstincts” Thong Bodysuit Shaper $68
An ultra-thin shaping bodysuit that gives you a sleek and smoothing look. It slims the tummy and eliminates those pesky love handles.

Spanx “Thinstincts” Mid-Thigh Shaper $58
One of my favorites, this shaper gives a sleek and smooth look while slimming the thighs, hips, and rear. The reinforced tummy panel offers extra control.

Spanx “Slimplicity” Full Slip $76
Made of firm compression fabric, this slip controls the tummy and waist and has adjustable straps.

Spanx Convertible Slip Shaper $76
Made of compression fabric, this slip has detachable straps and rubber grippers in the bodice. The perfect companion to all your strapless dresses.

All items are available at Nordstrom

We all need a little help sometimes, and I do believe that Spanx are a girl’s best friend. I wear them a lot, especially under dresses and tighter pants, and I find them comfy and fabulous.

Madewell Summer Picks

I love Madewell, mainly because not only do they carry their own brand, but others as well. Their clothing and accessories are casual or edgy, depending on how you style the look. They have a vast offering of merchandise, the quality is great, and the price points vary. It’s a great place to find anything you’re looking for and you know you’ll walk away with pieces that will last you many trend-filled seasons. I’ve put together my picks for this summer. Hope you like them!

A must have for summer, but I think I’ve selected a range that can go through all seasons with the right accent pieces.

Holepunch Tee Dress $99.99
Tickertape Stripe Shift $89.99

Stitchwork Silk Dress $159.99

Attic and Barn Kami Dress $235
Attic and Barn Kaoma Dress $255

One of the brands designed by this year’s CFDA winners, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (and one of my favorites). This collection offers fabulous denim pieces and quirky dresses. I love that they chose to do the jacket in a bright pink, the jeans offer that 70’s vibe I dig, and the shirtdress is right on trend for this season.

Sid Denim Jacket $365
Morrison Jeans $245
Alex Shirtdress $245

Everyone needs a fantastic bikini, a great hat and sunnies, and some tops for summer. These are my favorites warm-weather pieces.

Pen and Ink String Bikini $46 for top, $44 for bottom
Sunny Day Tortoise Sunglasses $49.50
Sheercheck Smocktop $69.50

Mara Hoffman Cocoon Tunic $213
Biltmore Straw Fedora $58
Stoneskipper Sweatshirt Tee $49.99

All items available at Madewell

Summer essentials, for me, are pieces you can wear year after year. Bikinis, sunglasses, denim, tees, a great dress-these all are essentials. Add some trendier items and you have the perfect outfits for the season.

Caftan Crazy

Through the magic of Pinterest, I discovered this fabulous brand that makes amazing dresses, tunics, and caftans. Two New York is a small collection of chic and effortless pieces. They are made from hand-loomed cotton saris and textiles, and are hand-made in their Brooklyn studio. And the designer, Monica Patel-Cohn has a very impressive resume. She has worked with Simon Doonan (the wizard behind all beauty at Barney’s New York) and in Milan at Prada. She so understands that women want to be chic and comfy whether they are at the beach or trying to beat the heat.

Seema Sari Tunic $270
I love the color and the length.

Camilla Tunic $260
This is perfect for the beach or a night on the town.

Saira Caftan $310
Gauzy and gorgeous-love it!

Isha Dress $286
Oh my goodness, I would live in this dress all summer long.

Kerala Dress $260
This would be my go-to event dress during the summer months. Simple but oh-so-chic.

For more offerings and information, please visit Two New York

I am going crazy for caftans right now, but it’s really hard to find ones that don’t look like pajamas and aren’t super expensive. I’ve also found some vintage offerings on Etsy and Ebay, and even some original patterns from the 70’s (too bad I can’t sew).

Rachel Pally “Gwyneth” Caftan Maxi $295
Still expensive but a true caftan.
Available at Neiman Marcus

Michael Stars “Eve” Caftan $117.30
This is a modern caftan and would rock at the clubs.
Available at Bloomingdale’s

Victoria’s Secret Caftan Dress $59.50
Same dress, different colors. This is my favorite and it’s affordable. Great for lounging, errands, or lunch with the girls.
Available at Victoria’s Secret

And here are some inspiring pictures that I “pinned” and have me dreaming of lazing my summer in a caftan.

The Webster Comes To Target

Today Target launches it’s latest retail concept, “The Shops at Target”. This new concept features limited-edition collections from popular boutiques across the United States (including one of my favorite beauty stores, The Cos Bar). On the fashion front, Target has partnered with the upscale Miami boutique, The Webster. Co-designed by The Webster owner Laurie Heriard Dubreuil and Target, this collection is made up of amazing pieces that have that South Beach vibe. Tropical-printed dresses, short suits, and accessories are just the beginning. There are party and work appropriate sheaths, swimwear, wedges, and beach totes, as well as pajamas, hats, and many other goodies. While I don’t have exact pricing for each item, I can tell you that the line ranges from $8-$50. Not bad for fabulous items that have major summer appeal.

Marvelous maxis, just what every gal needs for summer.

Shorts for work or play. The color is yummy and I adore the fact that the legs have more fitted opening. Super cute!

The swimwear screams Miami and the cardigan channels Jackie O. (as do the sunnies).

Dresses are a huge part of the collection. They feature many fabulous prints and the silhouettes should work on almost every body type. Add some stellar accessories and you’re ready for anything summer throws at you.

A great beachy look or perfect for lounging at home on a hot summer night.

Pretty and lightweight robe and chemise are essential for warm weather nights and mornings. Or you can go for a shorts option. Either way, you’ll be super sexy.

Tribal bangles have a tropical feel and every girl needs a floppy sun hat to protect her face. Patterned handbags and killer wedges add that little extra something to every ensemble.

Remember, the collection launches today and we all know how quickly the specialty items sell out at Target! For more information and pricing, please visit Target. I suggest you hurry!

Style Inspiration-Mad Men’s Megan Draper

If you ask me, there was one person that stole the show when Mad Men’s 5th season debuted on AMC. Megan Draper (portrayed by the beautiful Jessica Pare) and her rendition of the 60’s french song “Zou Bisou Bisou” had everyone talking. The song, which was made popular by Sophia Loren, was so trending that it is offered on iTunes. Megan Draper is sexy and gorgeous and is the epitome of sixties fashion. Costume designer Janie Bryant has done it again! From the clothing to the hair and makeup (which takes up to an hour and a half to do), Megan is the one to watch this season.

Megan does her rendition of “Zou Bisou Bisou”. Everything here is flawless-the dress, the hair, the makeup-stunning!

Costume designer Janie Bryant with the dress. The vintage find needed some repair, especially to the sleeves.

The hair, heavy eye makeup, and a mega watt smile encompasses the sixties vibe.

I’m a big fan of up-do’s. The higher the better!

The sixties were all about print and this dress has it in spades.

The many looks of Megan Draper

Office and home

The hair and makeup are a huge part of the character.

The coat is the statement piece, but it’s the accessories that bring the whole ensemble together. Check out those tights!

Another example of print and a heavy eye-perfection.

Mad Men airs Sundays at 10est/9cst on AMC

If you’re a fan of the sixties fashion, look no further than Megan Draper. Mad Men really does bring the era to life with their superb costumes.

Lovely Finds At Anthropologie

I received the new Anthropologie catalog the other day and all I can say is “Wow”. They have come so far over the last decade. The styles, brands, trends, and overall presentation is fantastic. Yes, the price range is much higher, but the quality and uniqueness makes it all worth it. It was hard for me to narrow down my favorites, but I gave it a shot.

So many pretty items to wear to bed. I love slips. They are so comfy and super sexy. The rompers remind of the undergarments women of “ill repute” wore back in the 1880’s. A couple of years ago my husband and I were lounging in a bar In Deadwood, South Dakota. The waitresses were all wearing something similar to these rompers. I wanted one so badly, but our server told us they were made specifically for them. Alas, it was not meant to be. These would be a great alternative.

Top: Scoopback Midi Slip $128 and Cloud-Ruffle Romper $148
Middle: Elbe Chemise $78
Bottom: Blushing Chemise $69.95 and Gillyflower Romper $128

I live in denim. Skinnies, jeggings, flares, wide-leg…I love them all! Anthropologie has a huge selection of silhouettes and brands. I am loving the idea of a wide-leg crop. They would be super fun this summer. Overalls really come and go as far as a trend, but these vintage ones from Levis are right up my alley. I would rock them for the rest of my life!

Top: Citizens of Humanity Wide-Leg Crops $286, Levis Vintage Collection Deconstructed Overalls $350, and Pilcro Sailor Slims $118
Bottom: Holding Horses Wide-Leg Trouser $128, AG Ex-Boyfriend Crop $198, and AG Tomboy $245

Spring and summer are made for dresses. While I usually prefer the “little black dress”, there are many vibrant shades this season that I am excited to try. What better way than in my choice of dress? Whether it’s a shift, a mini, or pattern, I vow to add more dresses into my wardrobe.

Top: Dynamic Jersey Shift $118, Looking Glass Shift $138, and Agneta Dress $248
Bottom: Sun-Soaked Shift $138, Catalyst Dress $248, and Brimming Borders Mini-Dress $288

Okay, you all know I worship peasant anything and these tops are fabulous. The neutral palette, made up of blushes, beiges, whites, and yellows, are soft and romantic. These lovelies would be my choice for an every day top, but could easily be “styled” up for night.

Top: Josephina Top $39.95 and City Cousin Blouse $68
Middle: Surf and Turf Cover-Up $138
Bottom: Pyracantha Blouse $88 and Early Daffodils Top $88

Anthro offers so many amazing tops in so many bright colors, you can’t help but wish for warm weather and sunshine. Again, most of these are in the “peasant” family, but this girl loves what she loves. I threw in a marvelous jacket as well. A nice, bold swing coat will absolutely be your statement piece and this one is “the tops”.

Top: Draped Snail Tank $69.95 and Vallota Peasant Blouse $79.95
Middle: Constructed Swing Jacket $198
Bottom: Saxifrage Thicket Top $98 and Framed Sleeve Top $78

All items available at Anthropologie

My selections are really just the tip of the iceberg at Anthropologie this season. Luckily for me (or maybe not so lucky), there are three Anthros within 10 miles of my house. I have a feeling they’re going to be seeing a lot of me over the next few months!

Style Inspiration-Zooey Deschanel

How can anyone not like Zooey Deschanel? Her face is adorable, her hair is amazing, she can act, sing, and is very funny. While her style is very different from my own, I do admire someone who dresses to the beat of her own drum. She is quirky and charming, and that is why she is my inspiration today.

Her beautiful face is one of the reasons why she’s an ambassador for Rimmel.

She is so great at putting together vintage pieces.

White tunic and black tights-I love the contrast!

Golden Globes stunner! The gown is just off-beat enough for her eclectic style.

The belt adds edge to this lacy dress.

This vintage-looking party dress is the epitome of Zooey.

You know I love pigtails and she wears them so well.

Only Zooey can wear a “quirky” dress to sing the National Anthem.

She is the poster child for “geek chic”.

Seriously, how can you not love her??
