The Little White Dress

We all know how important the “little black dress” is. It’s the one article of clothing that will get you through any social event on your calendar. But now that it’s summer, maybe we should switch things up and try a “little WHITE dress”. Yes, the old rules dictate you should only wear white Memorial Day through Labor Day (and we are now in that time frame), however, I do believe the white dress can be worn all year long with the right accessories and other pieces in your closet. White is classic, crisp, and chic, and looks fabulous with a tan. Here are some celebrities rocking the LWD.

Jessica Stam is stunning in Marchesa

Tali Lennox in this season’s hot trend-the shirtdress

Gabrielle Union is perfection in this three-quarter number

Caroline Sieber shines in an almost kimono-looking ensemble

Cameron Diaz is chic in this white jumpsuit

Vanessa Hudgens personifies glamour in this gown from Philosophy di Alberta Ferritti

Ashley Madekwe in adorable in this shift from Zara

Rachel Bilson opts for couture Chanel (love this one)

Natalie Portman in a darling LWD

Every designer and retailer offers a LWD this time of year. Here are some of my favorites in stores now.

From left to right:
Lucca Couture Chiffon Tie Top Baby Doll Dress $69 from Urban Outfitters
Warehouse Metallic Lace Shift $83.50 from ASOS
Johann Earl for Urban Renewal Surplice Dress $59 from Urban Outfitters

Knit Lace Dress $98 from Banana Republic
Scallop Lace Tube Dress $98 from Arden B.
Amie Maxidress in whisper gauze $69.99 from J. Crew

Sunny Repose Dress $98 from Anthropologie
Calvin Klein Sleeveless V-Neck $99.50 from Macy’s
Pleated Bodice Dress $79.90 from Express
JNBY Asymmetrical Hem Tshirt Dress $80.90 from Nordstrom

There are so many great options for the LWD. It is the perfect summer staple and will quickly become your go-to item for all occasions. Paired with flip flops or heels, this dress is sure to be a hit.

Summer Inspiration Board

Spending the day outside has got me thinking about my favorite summertime items. I was inspired to do a board that showcases my favorite things right now. I love doing inspiration boards because I am very visual and they help get my mojo flowing.

*Charlotte Ronson “A Perfect Touch” rollerball fragrance $20
This new fragrance was inspired by endless beach days. With notes of fresh citrus, blossoming florals, vanilla, and creamy musk, this harkens back to the summers of my youth. Charlotte created this scent due to the all the feedback she had regarding her “A Perfect Mess” beach hair. Everyone loved the smell and now it’s captured in an easy-to-use rollerball.
Available at Sephora

*Watermelon Lemonade. I first had this beverage when the hubby and I were in Las Vegas. We had spent the day at the pool and decided to try this little Mexican restaurant in Mandalay Bay. It is really the most refreshing summertime drink I’ve ever had. Yummy!!

*Sun-kissed hair. I love the color of her hair (and she is adorable). It truly captures the essence of days spent in the sun, sand, and surf. Gorgeous!

*Who wouldn’t love to spend the day laying in a hammock with their girlies? Sand between your toes, sun on your skin, listening to the surf. It would be absolute heaven.

*1960’s swimwear. And people think bikinis are scandalous now? This was quite risqué back in the day. It makes me think of a much simpler time. And vintage photos are always inspiring.

*Flip flop flower baskets. What a super cute and fun idea. I live in flips all summer long and this would be perfect in our backyard oasis.

*Chanel Orange Fizz nail varnish $27
Such a scrumptious color. It would be a great accent color to your tan fingers and toes.
Available at Nordstrom

*Top knots-the perfect summer accessory. I find myself sporting them more and more as the days get warmer. It’s much easier to relax on my lounge chair with a top knot. A ponytail just gets in the way!

*Free People “Ruffle Me Up” mesh tunic $88
I am dying over this retro-style tunic. The ruffled tiers are fabulous. This would be ideal as a beach cover-up or with a colorful slip under it. It’s one of my favorite pieces for summer.

Available at Free People

So, what inspires you this summer? I’d love to hear about any great products, recipes, or cute decorative pieces you may love.

Style Inspiration-Carine Roitfeld

This week I have chosen Carine Roitfeld for my fashion inspiration. Carine was the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris from 2001-2011 and is one of the most amazing stylists out there. Since leaving Vogue, she has done many freelance gigs, including Chanel’s fall 2011 and spring 2012 ad campaigns. This fall she has two new projects debuting. One is the launch of her own fashion magazine, CR Fashion Book (I cannot wait!) and the other is a line for MAC cosmetics. This collection will focus on the eyes, strong brows, and nude lips-her signature look. I love her “grunge” look and unique style. She is a true inspiration for all fashionistas out there!

Uber-cool lady!

So very Parisian, and I love the boots.

She started her career as a model and quickly moved behind the scenes at French Elle.

Huge fan of army green pants, especially when they’re dressed up with heels.

The many faces of Carine

Always love me some fur!

Denim skirt dressed up with blazer and heels.

She’s one style icon not afraid to recycle. Here the denim skirt takes on a more beachy vibe.

Her ad campaign for MAC will be in black and white. Very unusual for a cosmetics ad, but totally Carine.

With her book “Irreverent”, which was released last Christmas. It is the ultimate fashion book.

A peak inside her fabulous book.

Carine Roitfeld “Irreverent” is available at Amazon and is now $58.82 (was $100). I still need to pick up a copy!

Carine is truly a role model for anyone interested in fashion. I can’t wait to see what she does next!

Style Inspiration-Poppy Delevingne

Another Saturday, another inspiration. Today’s gal is Poppy Delevingne. This British beauty has strutted down the runways for such fashion giants as Chloe and Balenciaga, and she’s also an ambassador for Chanel. Known for her trademark unkempt waves and mile-long legs, this English lass has style I can relate too. She has that casual cool I admire so much, yet has the knack for being a showstopper at every event she attends. Here’s a peak into the world of Poppy.

A great military-inspired jacket over a casual dress with awesome detail. Pair it with stylish booties and you have fashion genius.

Strapless, lacy goodness. This dress flatters her figure and the loose waves work very well with this ensemble.

You know I adore a beanie and the jacket is scrumptious. The cutouts in the leggings add even more edge to this compilation.

Perfection. Every piece has an interest point. The top has cutouts, the clutch has the right amount of pattern and texture, and the booties and the jewelry are both complimentary.

Vision in red. I love the mix of pattern and texture, and the shoes give a more casual vibe.

Casual, edgy, cool. You can take a basic hoody, add the right denim and boots, and have a stylish look. Adding the right accessories can turn even the most basic outfit into something special.

Classy and chic. Notice the detailing of the top? That’s what sets this look apart from your average camel and black mix.

Pretty picture. I love how she left some curly tendrils out of her braid. Keeps it from looking too “Little House”.

With her sister Cara. I totally dig pairing a sequin top with denim and biker boots.

The ultimate example of casual chic. She’s in the mud and still looks stunning. Instead of slapping on a sweatshirt, you can layer funkier pieces, throw on some uber cool accessories, and apply a bright lipstick. Those little extras is what separates the stylish from the sloppy.

This is how I roll. By throwing on a fur, you turn jeans, sneakers, and a sweatshirt into a pulled-together look. Of course, you need to do your hair and makeup (always).

The right amount of wave and neutral makeup. You don’t need to go all out every day, but all ladies need to put in a little effort. You only get one chance to make a good first impression…

You do need to have some height to wear a dress like this, but she does it well. Love the sandals and the sunnies too.

It’s not hard to see why she’s an inspiration to me. I do like a gal who wears casual well. Anyone can look great dressing up, especially if you have a stylist. It’s getting the day-to-day right that’s hard for most. It’s all about the accessories and details.

The Best Of The SAG Awards

The SAG Awards were Sunday night and the stars were out in full-force. I think this is my favorite awards show. Firstly, it’s only two hours. Secondly, there is no host, and thirdly, it’s just to honor actors. It seems more fast-paced and laid back, and that makes for much more enjoyable viewing. The ladies of the red carpet looked amazing (of course) and I had a lot of favorites. In my opinion, this show had the ladies looking better than ever!

Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mishka gown with Dena Kemp Palladium diamond bubble ring. She really looks great, and this dress really shows off the figure she’s worked so hard for.

Julianna Margulies in a custom-made Calvin Klein Collection gown with Marcy Miller drop earrings. This dress is fabulous. She really just gets better and better.

Kristen Wiig in a Balenciaga gown and clutch. I adore the simplicity of this gown. It’s a wonderful silhouette for her and the choker is a great touch.

Tilda Swinton in a custom-made Lanvin goddess gown and Fred Leighton diamond bracelet. Wow! Usually she goes for a very androgynous look, but this evening she looked like a beautiful woman.

Sarah Hyland in a vintage-inspired Temperley gown. She is always adorable, and I love how she stays age-appropriate. It’s going to be fun watching her grow into her womanhood.

Octavia Spencer in a Tadashi Shoji gown with Irene Neuwirth jewelry. This dress really looks incredible on her body. It’s so fun to watch her-she’s having the time of her life.

Michelle Williams in Valentino with Fred Leighton for Forevermark jewelry. She looks so amazing in red and this is fun yet sophisticated.

Kyra Sedgwick in Pucci. She really does get better with age. She looks fabulous, sexy, and very comfortable with herself-something that definitely comes with more life experience.

Natalie Portman in Giambattista Valli Couture gown with Harry Winston jewelry. She is just such a classic beauty. This color is so rich and elegant.

Julie Bowen in Temperley London gown with Martin Katz jewelry and Judith Leiber clutch. This is an interesting choice. At first I didn’t really like it, but it grew on me. She’s taking some risks and you have to give her credit for that.

Emily Blunt in Oscar de la Renta with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Swarovski clutch. I love this color on her and the cut is very glamorous.

And now for my favorite-it’s a tie. These two ladies blew me away. They both looked so elegant, so sophisticated and so absolutely stunning, I just can’t decide between them.

Rose Byrne in an Elie Saab Couture Jumpsuit. Not many people can pull off a jumpsuit, especially on the red carpet. But paired with Chanel fine jewelry and a Lena Erziak clutch, she made it sparkle and shine. The hair and the makeup really complimented the jumpsuit. Simply fabulous!

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture drop-waist gown. They need a new word for how stunningly beautiful this dress is. I could die, it’s that good. The crystal embellishments on the sleeves and the neckline are spectacular. The hair and the makeup are divine. She is gorgeous.

What’s In My Bag

It’s a snowy day here and it looks like I’ll be stuck inside. I decided to clean out my bags and thought I’d give you a peek into one of them. I always love seeing what’s inside someone’s purse. It’s kind of like looking into a medicine cabinet. You know you shouldn’t look, but it’s like a car wreck-you just can’t help it. So, here’s a peek inside my Linea Pelle Dylan tote.

My Linea Pelle Dylan Tote. I love this bag. It’s super roomy and has a lot of pockets and compartments. It’s great for the days you have extra items to lug.

iPad and case. This all fits into a zippered pocket in my tote. I got the quilted case at Metropark. It’s great because it has it’s own strap. Plus, it’s a little glittery!

Hobo International billfold (and reward cards). These are great. It’s a double frame clutch that has tons of space. They come in many colors and leather or patent.

I keep my beauty essentials in this clear case. This way, when I travel, I can just throw this on the belt. No need to transfer everything into a zip lock bag.

Chanel sunnies, Elnett hairspray, and some lotion from Bath & Body. I never leave home without these three items.

Magazines. This tote is so roomy I can fit fashion magazines, no problem. It’s good to have some reading material-never know when you’ll find yourself waiting somewhere with nothing to do.

Rollerball perfumes, tons of lip balm, and a Sephora gift card. These I keep in zippered pockets for easy access.

Notepad (for jotting down ideas), gum, and Chanel wallet I use to house my business cards.

So, there you have it, a look into my bag. What do you keep in yours?

Fashionable Books

I love books. I read at least 2 books a week, and I’m not talking ebooks. I mean real, hold in your hands and flip the page, books. I love buying them, I love collecting them and I love displaying them. Coffee table books are the best for display, and I am especially drawn to the ones about fashion. There just so very pretty!

On my coffee table

These sit on an old school desk seat
