Benefit’s Latest Offering

I’m a big fan of Benefit Cosmetics. My love affair started more than two decades ago with their cult favorite, Benetint, and De-Groovie, and continues today. Their box ‘o powder, Coralista, is one of my all-time favorite blushes. That’s why I am super excited for their latest offering.
Later this month, Benefit will launch a line of lip glosses inspired by their most popular blushes. If you’re a fan of Dandelion, Sugarbomb, Bella Bamba, Dallas, Hoopla, or Coralista (like me), then you definitely don’t want to miss out on these scrumptious lip glosses.

Caftan Crazy

Through the magic of Pinterest, I discovered this fabulous brand that makes amazing dresses, tunics, and caftans. Two New York is a small collection of chic and effortless pieces. They are made from hand-loomed cotton saris and textiles, and are hand-made in their Brooklyn studio. And the designer, Monica Patel-Cohn has a very impressive resume. She has worked with Simon Doonan (the wizard behind all beauty at Barney’s New York) and in Milan at Prada. She so understands that women want to be chic and comfy whether they are at the beach or trying to beat the heat.

Kerala Dress $260
This would be my go-to event dress during the summer months. Simple but oh-so-chic.

I am going crazy for caftans right now, but it’s really hard to find ones that don’t look like pajamas and aren’t super expensive. I’ve also found some vintage offerings on Etsy and Ebay, and even some original patterns from the 70’s (too bad I can’t sew).

20120528-172625.jpg
Rachel Pally “Gwyneth” Caftan Maxi $295
Still expensive but a true caftan.
Available at Neiman Marcus

20120528-172752.jpg
Michael Stars “Eve” Caftan $117.30
This is a modern caftan and would rock at the clubs.
Available at Bloomingdale’s

Victoria’s Secret Caftan Dress $59.50
Same dress, different colors. This is my favorite and it’s affordable. Great for lounging, errands, or lunch with the girls.
Available at Victoria’s Secret

And here are some inspiring pictures that I “pinned” and have me dreaming of lazing my summer in a caftan.

Cat Eyes

I am addicted to sunglasses. Even on the cloudiest of days, I cannot leave home without them. I think blue eyes are extra sensitive to the sun. Choosing the right pair is essential, especially if you’re spending a lot of money. They are a major statement piece and it’s important to wear a pair that fits your style. A huge trend in frames this season is the Cat Eye. This silhouette has been around for decades, but comes and goes as far as trends are concerned. I’ve always been a huge fan! They are super glamorous and look great on almost everyone. Here’s a look at my top picks this season.

Mad Men Cosmetics

In keeping with the Mad Men theme from yesterday, today I feature the new cosmetics collection from Estee Lauder. This limited edition Mad Men Collection arrives just in time for the AMC series 5th season premiere (March 25) and features two must-have items that are sure to please. What I love about them is that they harken back to a time when glamour was still evident in every day life. Women oozed style and class, and something as simple as putting on lipstick gave you an aura of elegance. These are two products you will be proud to pull out of your bag.

20120223-151434.jpg
The lipstick in Cherry $25
This pretty cherry-red hue will look wonderful on all skin types. It comes in a 1960’s era gold pouch.

20120223-151641.jpg
Creme Rouge in Evening Rose $40
A beautiful, dewy rose shade that is packaged in a gorgeous gold and turquoise compact.

20120223-151845.jpg
The product and packaging have “handbag elegance”. In other words, something fabulous to pull out of your bag.

20120223-152054.jpg
The collection debuts on March 18th and will be available at Estee Lauder and Bloomingdale’s.

Doll Eyes

Just like red lipstick, I am constantly on the hunt for the perfect mascara. All I want is to find one that lengthens, thickens, darkens, and doesn’t clump. Is that too much to ask? Apparently so. I have tested dozens of mascaras-from high end to drugstore-and have yet to be 100% satisfied. Most days I have 4 different types on my lashes. Crazy and very expensive!
My latest test has been Lancome’s Hypnose Doll Lashes. Lancome is consistently rated tops in mascara, but I’ve never been too crazy about the results. Despite the reviews (which aren’t great), I thought I’d give it a try.
I actually like it. Lancome states that it will extend, lift and plump up the volume to doll-like proportions. It does extend and lift, but doesn’t quite thicken the way I would like. However, paired with Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum and Primer, it’s as close to perfect as it gets. It doesn’t clump, smear onto my lids (and they are on the oily side) and it washes off very easily. And it’s the only mascara I have to wear-no layering necessary.
