Seussical, The Wedding

On Saturday, my family made the journey to Fort Dodge, Iowa for my cousin Rebecca’s wedding. When we received the invitation, we realized they were having a Dr. Seuss themed wedding. This seemed perfect for a couple that fell in love in the theater. We were very excited to see what they had in store.

The invitation

We got lost on our way to the wedding (lots of twists and turns). We stopped at a laundry mat and a nice man there had us follow him to the theater (only in a small town). It was fitting they would choose to marry in a theater and The Hawkeye Community Theater was adorable. Lots of character!

How cute are the marquees!

The stage-so pretty (I didn’t have the best camera with me)

Her dress was stunning-I love the train in the back.

The “Story Teller” was fanatasic!

Their wedding program-so clever!

After the wedding it was back to the hotel for dinner and dancing. The hall was decorated with lots of touches of Dr. Seuss.

Our table setting. It was very touching-my late father was Mike.

The cake was a work of art-and very delicious!

The best part of any wedding reception is the dance, or watching the children dance! From the first note of “Love Shack”, my nieces, Ella (8) and Finley (5), and my cousin’s daughter, Addi (3), were non-stop dancing machines. Addi even brought her own tutu!

Loved her tutu! Pink and orange were my wedding colors.

As the evening was winding down, my aunt Laura pulled a piece of meat out of my hair. It looked like half a piece of pepperoni. We aren’t sure where it came from-there was no pepperoni for dinner. My cousin Joe said he had noticed it earlier, but thought it was some kind of fancy braid-men!

There really is nothing better than spending time with family and celebrating the union of two amazing people. Congratulations Rebecca and Mikey!!

  1. Great recap, Megan! This really was one of the most fun weddings ever. Watching those kids dance and the meat in the hair were two big highlights. When Laura pulled that chunk out, and we realized what it was, I thought we were going to bust laughing!!! It was a great event and we all wish Rebecca and Mikey every happiness.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing our day! We are delighted you enjoyed our quirky wedding. We had so much fun planning all of the fun little details. We have to admit that we didn’t realize the connection with the quote. We chose it because of Mikey. Guess it was meant to be! Love, Rebecca & Mikey Burgio

    1. I thought the quote was for Mikey as well, but the connection was made at our table! I wish my dad could have been there. He would have been beaming to see you get married! It was a wonderful celebration!! We love you guys!
