5 Minute Face

I love my morning routine. There’s something very comforting about having a regime. It gets my day off to the right start and sets the stage. But just because I enjoy applying lotions and potions, it doesn’t mean I want it to take forever. Let’s be real, most of us have a limited amount of time in the morning to get ready and we need things to be streamlined. Here’s a look at my five minute face (give or take). It may seem like a lot of products, but they are quick and easy to apply. You’ll have a natural, rosy glow in a matter of minutes.

The first thing I do is apply a beauty balm. This is a moisturizer, primer, concealer, and SPH all in one. It will save you lots of time (and money).

I then apply a concealer on the hard to cover spots. This takes two seconds, as the bb cream does a great job covering most flaws.

The next step is to apply a blush stain (gel or cream). You could skip this step, but I find my cheeks stay rosy longer if I use a stain.

I then sweep on a mineral powder. It gives me a flawless finish and helps to keep the oil at bay. I find mineral powders to be the best. They seem less cakey and are more natural.

Next comes a powder blush. I know, it seems like overkill to most of you. But I’ve found that using both a cream and powder blush gives me great color and is less likely to melt off during the day.

It’s on to the eyebrows. I like a gel instead of a pencil. The color sweeps on with a mascara wand and is super easy. It gives definition and holds brows into place.

To set everything, I use a makeup setting spray. This keeps my face looking fresh and set all day.

If it’s a day I’m going to be out and about, I’ll add mascara to the ritual. I always use a primer. It makes my lashes even longer and keeps the mascara from smudging.

Last step is the lip. For most days I apply a tinted lip balm. It gives my pout a natural pop of color while keeping them soft and moisturized.

So, there you have it, my five minute face. You can add or subtract to fit your needs, but this is what works best for me. What’s your five minute face routine?

Conceal Me

Finding a concealer that can do it all is tricky. The good ones are often too heavy and I want to conceal without a trace. I want magic! That’s exactly what I found in Amazing Cosmetics Concealer.
This is a full coverage concealer with highly intense pigments and is super-emollient. It erases all skin imperfections, whether it’s dark circles, blemishes or skin spots. Because it’s super-concentrated, you only need a tiny amount (which is good because it lasts longer) and it blends very easily. It comes in ten shades and is waterproof (great for summertime) yet washes away with any cleanser. It has a hefty price tag, especially for the size, but I got the little tube and it has been going strong for months. Definitely worth it!

For a more affordable alternative, Revlon’s Photoready Concealer does the job. It comes in stick form and six shades. It has photochromatic pigments that bend, reflect, and diffuse light that create a flawless face.

Lips Like Butter

We all know by now that I am addicted to lip balm. Love it, will try anything, blah blah, blah…One of my favorite products is Korres Lip Butter. Made with Shea butter, it is deeply moisturizing and feels amazing on my lips. It is available in seven colors, but don’t be fooled by the lip balm aspect. The colors are borderline intense and produce a shiny, tinted finish. My one complaint is that it comes in a tub so I have to apply with my fingers, which I really don’t like (you need to have a tissue handy because there will be color on your fingers). It is a great replacement for lipstick-the color is just as rich, but it will keep your lips hydrated, and we could all use a little of that this time of year.

I found a new, absolutely fabulous product last week-Revlon’s Colorburst Lip Butter. It is every bit as good as the Korres, but comes in a tube so no messy fingers! It is also formulated with Shea butter, and it’s gel formula gives super hydration to dry lips. It is available in twenty colors and they are also pretty intense. My favorites are Candy Apple and Peach Parfait.

Both would make excellent stocking stuffers!!

Illumination

I was going through my bag of free samples from Sephora the other day and came across a gift pack from Tarte Cosmetics (if you’re not a VIB member at Sephora, you must do it). In it was their Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum. Perfect-just what I need! This time of year skin starts to get a little dull and dry, so it’s always good to find a great skin brightener. I decided to give it a try and am so glad I did!
I’ve been mixing it in with my Dr. Jart’s Beauty Balm (dollop of each in my palm, mix to perfection). I find I need less of the beauty balm and that the concoction spreads very easily over my face. It gives me just the right amount of glow (sometimes illuminators can make you look shiny instead of glowing) and it’s actually really good for your skin. It’s packed full of vitamins and tea extract which moisturize and replenish skin. The healing Amazonian clay keeps oily skin in check and neutralizes skin imperfections. All you’re left with is radiant skin, and who doesn’t love that!?!?

A more affordable version would be Revlon Age Defying Spa Face Illuminator. It has SPF 8 and can be worn with makeup or alone.
