Workout Gear That Will Get You Moving

Let’s face it, we all need to work out. I’s just the way it is. There are some days when I hate every minute of it, but I feel so happy afterwards. And yes, you get hot, sweaty, stinky…but that doesn’t mean you can’t look great doing it. Workout wear has taken on a life of it’s own (and one of the few categories that hasn’t suffered because of the economy). There are boutiques devoted to nothing but fitness and exercise apparel and equipment. Yes, they might be more expensive than big box retailers, but in my opinion the merchandise is well worth it. Not only is the fabric better, but so is the fit and the design. And it’s so cute you can wear it even when you’re not working out. Luluemon is one of these boutiques and I have fallen in love. You get fabulous service from knowledgable staff, plus they offer in-store classes and run clubs, just to name a few extras. Here are my picks for summer. After all, working out is much easier if I’m happy with my outfit!

20120510-133205.jpg
Deep Breathe Bra $48
One of the biggest issues I had with buying sports bras at the big box retailers is that they didn’t offer very good support. While my girls aren’t huge, they’re big enough (and old enough) to need support. This bra is great. It offers medium support and coverage, mainly due to the cross front and racerback. It also has removable cups which I love.

20120510-133512.jpg
Pranayama Bra $48
This is perfect for low-impact like yoga. The support and coverage are low so if you have “girls” this may not be for you. The cross front always your skin to breathe and keeps the tatas separate. Also comes with removable cups.

20120510-133745.jpg
Dhanursana Crop $78
These crops are super soft and comfortable. The bound hem keeps the crops in place, while the waistband has a hidden pocket for keys and cards.

20120510-133934.jpg
Strength and Tone Short $48
Lightweight and ideal for hot yoga or running. The anti-stink mesh liner ensures you goodies stay hidden. It has a cinch-able drawcord so you can adjust the fit and the fold-over waist band hides the drawcord. They also have front hip pockets.

20120510-134224.jpg
Tame Me Tank $52
This is great. The cut of the top is designed to fit over a full-coverage bra. It is made from Luxtreme and Silverescent fabrics which are moisture-wicking. And the cinch-able drawcord hem keeps the tank from riding up (I hate that).

20120510-134440.jpg
In the Sun Dress $98
A dress designed for runners! The perforated panels are cute and allows skin to breathe while the four-way stretch lets you move in all directions. It also has reflective details so you are not invisible at night. And it’s cute enough to wear out and about too.

20120510-134705.jpg

20120510-134715.jpg
Flow and Go Tote $128
This is the ideal bag for any girl that spends time at class. It can be worn as a messenger or tote and has tons of room. There’s a mesh pocket for sweaty clothes, front pockets to stow your shoes, and a back pocket that is roomy enough for a laptop. Drawcords keep everything in place and the side bottom zippers open so you can store your yoga mat. This tote is also a fabulous carry-on bag.

All items are available at Lululemon

As for my personal workout update, I am down 7 pounds! I have worked out every day for 25 days and have been at my calorie goal every day. I’m super excited because I am starting to see some real changes in my body, and that makes me happy inside and out!

Mad Men at Banana Republic

Banana Republic unveiled a sneak peak of their new Mad Men Collection and it is stunning. If you’re a fan of the AMC hit, you’re going to want to check it out. This grouping consists of 40 pieces such as white lace tops, short-sleeve floral sheaths, pink capri pants, party dresses, and accessories. The line was created by Mad Men’s costume designer Janie Bryant who has done a phenomenal job of keeping with the aesthetic of the 1960′s era. The collection will debut on March 1st and while I don’t have any pricing information, it’s still too good not to share.

20120222-133149.jpg
The details on the clutch are divine and the pink of the dress is gorgeous.

20120222-133246.jpg
I love the floral pattern and the bracelets are just chunky enough.

20120222-133328.jpg
This is a great silhouette and the neckline is fabulous. The belt is an adorable polka dot and the bow is a great touch.

20120222-133520.jpg
Total 1960′s vibe. I remember my grandfather wearing shirts like that.

20120222-133614.jpg
I think the color palette is very sophisticated and the look is styled to perfection.

20120222-133716.jpg
This look screams convertible car. While I normally shy away from color, these pink capris are so playful and the white lace top can be worn many different ways.

I’ve tried on several different options from Banana’s other Mad Men collections and I can tell you that the fit is wonderful. The quality and fabric choices are also top notch. For more information, please visit Banana Republic

Skaist Taylor at Fashion Week

I’ve been waiting a long time for a new collection from Juicy Couture founders, Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor. And it finally happened Sunday in parking garage under Lincoln Center. The new line, simply called Skaist Taylor, is fabulous. They’ve deemed it “Cali-eccentric” and is for girls who love fashion and enjoy mixing high and low end with vintage tossed in for good measure. The collection consists of tees, outerwear, pants, and luxurious knits. You won’t find any velour tracksuits, but it’s still comfortable and fashion forward. The line will be in stores for Fall 2012 and prices range from $175-$3000. Here’s just a taste!

20120215-113905.jpg
The sweater is divine, the cut of the pant is perfection, and the hat is just fun.

20120215-113953.jpg
Love the fur (of course) and the shorter front/ longer back seems to be the trend for dresses and skirts.

20120215-114149.jpg
Very bohemian. The detail on the dress is great.

20120215-114236.jpg
Another bohemian look. You can see that straight hair is going to be huge for fall.

20120215-114332.jpg
A new twist on the peasant top.

20120215-114444.jpg
Pea Coats are huge for fall. I love the gray with red accessories.

20120215-114532.jpg
A super cool alternative to the regular suit. The skinny, cropped pants are awesome!

My heroes- Gela and Pam!

Spring Is In The Air At H&M

I hate to admit it, but I haven’t been doing much shopping lately. I figure if I don’t leave the house, I won’t spend any money. Works in theory, but I’m itching to see some spring fashion. Unfortunately, I have been a little disappointed when I have ventured to the mall. Nothing is very inspiring and everything looks the same. BORING! But then the fog was lifted when I journeyed into H&M. It’s very rare I can’t find something there, and you can’t deny they have affordable pricing. Here is what I am loving from their spring collection.

20120128-173817.jpg
Denim skinnies $19.95. I’m having trouble fitting into my jeans, so it’s nice to find some that I like.

20120128-173916.jpg
Trench $49.95. Every girl needs a trench in her wardrobe and the red is super fun.

20120128-174003.jpg
Blouse $17.95. I totally dig polka dots and the blue is a nice change of pace for me.

20120128-174049.jpg
Blouse $24.95. I love the peasant top feel, yet in this fabric you can totally dress it up.

20120128-174142.jpg
Blouse $49.95. I used to have a similar top. The pearl collar gives it a sophisticated edge.

20120128-174247.jpg
Skirt $34.95. Every lady deserves a pencil skirt and the texture of this one makes it special.

20120128-174342.jpg
Blazer $34.95. Blazers are very multi-purpose and it seems red is my color today.

20120128-174443.jpg
Shirt $19.95. Gingham is so girly and I love the green-it screams spring.

20120128-174540.jpg
Pants $12.95. Red again, only this time in a pant. Very classy and fun!

20120128-174636.jpg
Cardigan $17.95. Cardies are the best staple to have in your closet. Bright colors are THE trend for spring.

20120128-174751.jpg
Denim $29.95. I’ve been searching for some grey skinnies and these hit the mark.

20120128-174850.jpg
Wedges $29.95. Wedges are not going away and that makes me very happy. Much easier to walk in!

20120128-175008.jpg
Leather pants $29.95. Leather pants rock! You can dress them up or “caz” them out. Always awesome!

20120128-175146.jpg
Dress $29.95. This is just sweetness. I love the lace. This would look awesome with the right heels or just as great with flip flops.

20120128-175309.jpg
Blouse $17.95. Denim is huge for spring and I always love a peasant top and off-the-shoulder.

All pieces available at H&M

After finding all these goodies, I do believe I am feeling more inspired!

Seeing Red

I haven’t worn red pants since I was a child, but I have to say, I am totally digging the red denim that have been popping up all over. It’s a bold splash of color on dreary winter days. You can dress them up (I prefer with a black sweater, pearls, and a white fur coat) or you can totally make it casual. Whatever you think, there is no denying this is a trend that has legs.

20120108-123817.jpg
There are so many different ways you can make the look all yours

20120108-123857.jpg
SJP makes it casual with purple shirt (risky, but cool choice) and little black Mary Janes

20120108-123948.jpg
This girl dresses it up with an adorable red and white polka dot top and fur

There are so many brands out there that have jumped on the red denim band wagon. I went with an offering from Target. It’s a risky move for me (I tend to stick with black) but really wanted to give it a try. I love them, get so many compliments on them, and even got the thumbs up from the hubby.

20120108-124220.jpg
Mossimo Supply Juniors Skinny Denim $22.99
available at Target
**These a re true junior sizes. I had to go up several sizes. Good thing they are super stretchy!

20120108-124403.jpg
Blank Denim Spray On Skinny Jean $80
available at Shop Bop
**I really like Blank Denim. It’s a great middle-of-the-road choice. I usually do go up a size.

20120108-124620.jpg
AG The Legging Jean $198
availble at Shop Bop
**AG has a great fit. These have the appearance of being leather, but they aren’t.

A word about Shopbop. They offer free shipping and I usually get my order the next day. You can find almost any brand and style on this website.

If red isn’t your color, there are many others to choose from. Colored denim is definitely the trend right now.

With New Year’s Eve only one day away, I figured it was time I start planning an outfit. I hadn’t checked out Banana Republic for awhile, and I found some amazing pieces that will work for a night out on the town or can mix and match with other pieces already in my closet. That’s the great thing about Banana-classic pieces that you can style up for any occasion. Here are my favorite items.

Monogram Silk Dress $175
A pretty pop of color will definitely turn heads!

20111229-120959.jpg
One-Shoulder Top $79.50
A great silhouette for the night clubs.

20111229-121102.jpg
Sequin Tank Top $89.50
This can also be paired with denim for a more casual look and works all year long.

20111229-121213.jpg

A great compliment to the tops above. Velvet is always a good choice for the holidays.

20111229-121346.jpg

20111229-121411.jpg
Heritage Draped Cowl-neck $49.50 and Sequin Pencil Skirt $110
Nothing says New Year’s like sequins. Paired together this is a stunning outfit, but both pieces will work with the items pictured above. The cowl with the velvet pants would be stunning!

20111229-121804.jpg
Natasha Velvet Mary Jane $120
You can never go wrong with a Mary Jane. Maybe that’s why we wore them as children-they always worked.

20111229-121925.jpg

These are super fun and sexy.
All pieces available at Banana Republic
