Sunscreen That Creates Clearer Skin

I was a naughty girl this past weekend and did not bring sunscreen with me when we went for a hike (there may have been some beach time as well). Of course, every product I put on my face contains sunscreen, but as we all know it’s essential to reapply. And then there’s the problem of finding one that doesn’t leave my skin greasy, especially given my battle with oily skin. Well, I have found a solution for anyone that battles acne or the greasies.
DERMAdoctor “Ain’t Misbehavin’ Skin Clarifying and Mattifying Broad Spectrum SPF 30″ actually is the perfect sunscreen for those with less than perfect skin. This little beauty helps oily, combination, or blemish-prone skin from premature aging due to UV exposure. This will hydrate and protect skin without feeling greasy or sticky, which I am all about. Plus, it’s formulated with willow bark, a known clarifying agent. So, it can actually help prevent new blemishes from occurring and will help eliminate the ones you already have. The light texture absorbs instantly and is for the face or the body (another bonus for those with problematic back and chest areas). Just be sure to reapply every two hours if you’re outside.

And just to prove how important sunscreen is to the younger people, here’s a picture (albeit a weird one) of my chest. I didn’t have freckles growing up-this is all sun damage. We didn’t know about or use sunscreen in the 70′s and 80′s, and this is the result. Sunscreen is vitally important! You don’t want a freckle chest when your 40+. Nothing ages you more!

Nip+Fab Lands Stateside At Target

It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here! The U.K.’s best selling skincare phenomenon, Nip+Fab, is now stateside at select Target stores. Created by celebrity skin care specialist (and the brains behind the much more expensive line Rodial), this skincare collection targets every issue women face. This clinically tested line of products contains miracle workers that brighten, plump, and smooth skin, and covers problems from cellulite to dark spots to frown lines. I seriously ran to Target yesterday. I started with three products, which I will review once I’ve had some time to use them, but I know I will be going back for more.

20120405-122657.jpg
Frown Fix $9.95
This product is a wrinkle and expression line filler. It comes with a neat brush so you just click and swipe it over all those lines you want filled.

20120405-122830.jpg
Pigmentation Fix $15.95
This reduces age and sun spots, and corrects uneven skin tone. While I’ve been extremely happy with Estee Lauder’s Idealist, this has a much more beautiful price tag (Idealist is $85 a bottle).

20120405-123042.jpg
No Needle Fix $19.99
This claims to be an injection of youth with no needle needed. It fills wrinkles within 30 minutes and after after 28 days deep wrinkles are diminished by almost 16%.

Today is my first day with these three products and I can tell you this much-they are all non-greasy and feel amazing on my skin. I put the Frown Fix on my crows feet and they are much softer looking and my concealer did not settle into them. I could actually feel the No Needle Fix working-my skin immediately felt tighter, but not in a bad way. I just know this is going to be my new favorite line!

please visit Nip+Fab for more information.

Nip+Fab is available on-line and at select Target stores. Some in the Minneapolis area are Edina, Knollwood, St. Louis Park, Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Chaska, and Mankato. I suggest downloading the Target app. It gives you the product and whether it’s on-line or in-store. I could then choose the store, the product, and it would tell me exactly what aisle to go to (it was a little hard to find).

Style Inspiration-Zooey Deschanel

How can anyone not like Zooey Deschanel? Her face is adorable, her hair is amazing, she can act, sing, and is very funny. While her style is very different from my own, I do admire someone who dresses to the beat of her own drum. She is quirky and charming, and that is why she is my inspiration today.

20120330-100447.jpg
Her beautiful face is one of the reasons why she’s an ambassador for Rimmel.

20120330-100614.jpg
She is so great at putting together vintage pieces.

20120330-100657.jpg
White tunic and black tights-I love the contrast!

20120330-100741.jpg
Golden Globes stunner! The gown is just off-beat enough for her eclectic style.

20120330-100840.jpg
The belt adds edge to this lacy dress.

20120330-100922.jpg
This vintage-looking party dress is the epitome of Zooey.

20120330-101022.jpg
You know I love pigtails and she wears them so well.

20120330-101101.jpg
Only Zooey can wear a “quirky” dress to sing the National Anthem.

20120330-101210.jpg
She is the poster child for “geek chic”.

Seriously, how can you not love her??

5 Minute Face

I love my morning routine. There’s something very comforting about having a regime. It gets my day off to the right start and sets the stage. But just because I enjoy applying lotions and potions, it doesn’t mean I want it to take forever. Let’s be real, most of us have a limited amount of time in the morning to get ready and we need things to be streamlined. Here’s a look at my five minute face (give or take). It may seem like a lot of products, but they are quick and easy to apply. You’ll have a natural, rosy glow in a matter of minutes.

20120307-152012.jpg
The first thing I do is apply a beauty balm. This is a moisturizer, primer, concealer, and SPH all in one. It will save you lots of time (and money).

I then apply a concealer on the hard to cover spots. This takes two seconds, as the bb cream does a great job covering most flaws.
shown: Loreal Magic Lumi Liquid Concealer $13

The next step is to apply a blush stain (gel or cream). You could skip this step, but I find my cheeks stay rosy longer if I use a stain.
shown: Tarte Cheek Stain $30

I then sweep on a mineral powder. It gives me a flawless finish and helps to keep the oil at bay. I find mineral powders to be the best. They seem less cakey and are more natural.

Next comes a powder blush. I know, it seems like overkill to most of you. But I’ve found that using both a cream and powder blush gives me great color and is less likely to melt off during the day.

It’s on to the eyebrows. I like a gel instead of a pencil. The color sweeps on with a mascara wand and is super easy. It gives definition and holds brows into place.
shown: Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel $21

To set everything, I use a makeup setting spray. This keeps my face looking fresh and set all day.
shown: Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray $29

If it’s a day I’m going to be out and about, I’ll add mascara to the ritual. I always use a primer. It makes my lashes even longer and keeps the mascara from smudging.

Last step is the lip. For most days I apply a tinted lip balm. It gives my pout a natural pop of color while keeping them soft and moisturized.

So, there you have it, my five minute face. You can add or subtract to fit your needs, but this is what works best for me. What’s your five minute face routine?

Liner Notes

As a young woman, I could not get enough eyeliner. That seems to still be the trend in the land of youth. As a more elegant woman (I refuse to say mature), I’ve come to realize less is more. Eye makeup can give away your age quickly. It has a tendency to settle into fine lines and creases or smudging onto the brow bone. But sometimes a lady does need a little definition and color. Enter the wonderful eyeliner/ shadow stick from E.L.F.
This combo is a dream. The eyeliner is so slim it’s virtually fool-proof. It has twist-up ease, so there’s never a need to sharpen (just make sure you twist it back down before capping). This soft gel liner makes it a breeze to create dramatic definition and the light-reflecting pigments help line the eye subtly but effectively. Because of my eye shape, I often get mascara along my upper lash line, but one swipe of this hides those mistakes. The smooth glide shadow stick provides a soft, highlighting color that compliments the liner and really makes my eyes pop. Again, I just do one swipe and have instant and flawless color. It wears really well and never ends up where it shouldn’t be. It’s available in 6 shades, which makes achieving a smokey eye super easy.

Eye Liner and Shadow Stick $3.00
available at ELF and most major drugstores (I got mine at Target)

Waddle Repair

Remember Ally McBeal? There were two characters-Richard and Whipper-and he was most attracted to her “waddle”. In other words, her loose neck skin. At the time, I was a mere youngin’ of the late twenty/early thirties range, and could not relate to this at all. Well, the times, they are a’changin my friends. I feel there are two things that truly give away my age-my eyes (years spent squinting) and the lines on my neck. Yuck and yuck! It really never occurred to me that all these years I should have been protecting my neck. In my search for a neck cream, I came across one from L’Oreal. So far, so good.
L’Oreal’s Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Golden Balm for Face/Neck/Chest is really good. It’s a thick, rich, and delicious smelling balm that deeply nourishes thin, delicate skin with calcium + ten precious oils. It immediately penetrates deep below the skin’s surface, locking in 24 hour hydration. The elasticity is improved for more toned, firmer, and younger looking skin. It’s thick-really thick-but not at all greasy. It soaks in very quickly. And after using it for a couple of months, I can see a difference. Even some of the finer lines have disappeared. I don’t need to use it on my face (yet) but my chest is starting to need a little help too. Good thing this balm covers all the bases.

Style Inspiration-Rooney Mara

With the US release of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” just days away, I’ve decided to profile the woman who will be portraying Lisbeth:Rooney Mara. I have to admit, I hadn’t really heard of her before this movie, but she has definitely captured my attention. She has wowed on the red carpet and has one of the most beautiful faces I have ever seen.
